National Adoption Awareness Month

National Adoption Awareness Month

November is one of our favorite months because it signifies National Adoption month, as well as, Orphan Sunday. And recently, Stand Sunday- for the purpose of calling the church to stand for children and families in U.S. Foster Care. For us, this month’s focus is to for the Church to recognize the foster care crisis locally and to move from compassion to action in meeting the needs of local orphans through the Church.

There are 1200 foster children in my tri-county area, approximately 18,000 in FL, and nearly half a million nationwide. Do you know how many there are in your state? How about in your county? Do you know how many attend your church? It is our biblical mandate according to James 1:27, to care for them. We need to reach out to the families who have taken them in. What can we do as a brother or a sister in the family of God, to provide tangible help to a foster family? Can you cook a meal? Can you mow their lawn? Babysit? Help with transportation? Provide respite?

I encourage to find a foster family in your church and ask them what you can do to help carry the load and to enjoy the rewards also!
